CT Man Arrested For Stealing From NY Gas Station: Police

Police said he had been identified but was living outside of the state.

WASHINGTON, NY — A Connecticut man was arrested in Dutchess County and was accused of stealing cash from a gas station. State Police said Clifford D. Akins, 59, of Sharon, CT was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony, and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, misdemeanors.

Troopers responded to the Gulf gas station on Route 44 in the Town of Washington Dec. 21, 2107, for the theft of $3,000 from the gas station’s counter which was unattended.

Akins was identified as a suspect but was living outside of the state.

When he returned to the Gulf station Feb. 21, 2018, he was arrested.

Police said he was also found to have stolen property, a small amount of cocaine and operated his vehicle with four suspensions.

Akins was arraigned in the Town of Union Vale Court and sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond.

He is next scheduled to appear in the Town of Washington Court Feb. 27.
