Fire Claims 1 Life In Columbia County

Three people were in the building at the time of the fire, officials said.

PHILMONT, NY — Police are investigating a fatal structure fire in Columbia County. State police said, around 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, they were called to Main Street in the Village of Philmont for a residential fire to assist the Philmont Fire Company.

The investigation found there were three people in the building at the time of the fire. All three were able to get out of the building safely.

However, one of the residents — Jacquline Strobino, 56 — went back into the building for unknown reasons.

She was later found dead by responding fire fighters.

Preliminary findings suggest the cause of the fire was accidental in nature.

New York State Fire Investigators and the Columbia County Cause and Origin Team were on scene.

Philmont Fire Company was assisted by Livingston Fire, Greenport Fire and the Churchtown Fire Departments.

The investigation remains on-going, police said.
