Legoland New York Gets Site Plan Approval

GOSHEN, NY — Legoland New York took another step forward Thursday, when the Goshen town planning board approved approvals for the $500 million theme park site plan. Completing a 17-month review process, the board also OK’d clearing and grading permits.

Legoland’s community relations head Phil Royle said the 6-0 vote was a big deal. There was one abstention, the Times Herald-Record said. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

Merlin Entertainment, the developer, hopes to start construction before the end of 2017 with the park opening by 2019, MidHudsonNews.com said.

Opponents of the park want a public referendum on the sale of some parcels of public land, and town officials a block of the sale by voters would not stop the park being built, the Daily Freeman said.

Plans for the park include eight themed areas and 50 different rides. It will be the third Legoland built in the U.S.

The theme park could draw up to 2.5 million visitors annually, the developer said.
