UPDATE: Manhunt Ends With The Suspected Gunman In A Deadly Early Morning Shooting In Custody
Port Jervis police initially responded to multiple reports of shots fired on Hammond Street, in the city's Fourth Ward.

PORT JERVIS, NY — The suspect in a deadly shooting is in custody following an hours-long manhunt on Sunday.
"On February 15, 2026, at approximately 7:35 p.m., members of the Port Jervis Police Department took the suspect, David Rombousek, into custody on Ball Street in the City's Fourth Ward, without incident," Port Jervis police said in a statement released on Sunday evening. "We would like to thank all assisting agencies and members of the public for their cooperation in bringing this incident to a swift resolution."
The City of Port Jervis Police Department, the New York State Police, and the Orange County District Attorney's Office searched for 26-year-old David Rombousek, in connection to a homicide early on Sunday, on Hammond Street in the City of Port Jervis.

The suspect was considered armed and dangerous, according to police, who urged the public not to approach Rombousek under any circumstances.

Officers initially responded to multiple reports of shots fired on Hammond Street, located in the city's Fourth Ward.
Arriving officers found a 43-year-old man who had been shot multiple times. The victim was rushed to Bon Secours Hospital, but later died.
Members of the New York State Police assisted City of Port Jervis police officers at the scene. The investigation is being conducted jointly by the City of Port Jervis Police Department, the New York State Police, and the Orange County District Attorney's Office, with support from the Orange County Sheriff's Office Special Operations Group and the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center.
