One Arrested In Connection With West Point Cadets OD'ing In FL

WEST POINT, NY — West Point cadets were among students on spring break who overdosed on what was believed to be fentanyl-laced cocaine in Wilton Manors, Florida.

Six young men were taken to area hospitals Friday night, with two in critical condition on ventilators, The New York Times reported.

Three men were released from the hospital and one remained in stable condition.

A woman was later taken to the hospital after feeling ill, Wilton Manor police said in a Facebook post.

Authorities obtained the phone number of the man who investigators say supplied the cadets and others with the fentanyl-laced powder. Police arrested Axel Giovany Casseus after he sold them 43 grams of cocaine, according to the arrest report.

"This incident serves as a stark reminder to all, especially those visiting for Spring Break, of the deadly impacts of Fentanyl," police said in a news release.

"This synthetic opioid continues to have detrimental impacts on many communities," police said.

The U.S. Military Academy said it was aware of the situation in Florida involving the cadets and is currently under investigation, NPR reported.
