Pawling Man Shows Up In Court Drunk For DWI Charge: Police

Deputies in the courtroom warned him not to drive after his court appearance.

PAWLING, NY — A Pawling man now faces felony charges after showing up to court intoxicated. The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office arrested Matthew S. Paul, 43, of Pawling, for felony-level driving while intoxicated and aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle. The sheriff's office said Paul arrived for a DWI-related court appearance Sept. 19 at the Town of LaGrange Court.

Deputies said, at the time, he appeared to be in an intoxicated condition and was warned not to drive after the proceeding.

Paul decided to get in his car and drive away and was subsequently arrested.

The most recent charges are both felonies because of prior DWI convictions.

After being processed, Paul was arraigned before the Town of LaGrange Court and was sent to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond.
