Pot Possession Arrest On Thruway In Newburgh

The man was stopped initially for a possible vehicle and traffic violation.

NEWBURGH, NY — A traffic stop on I-87 yielded an arrest for pot possession. State police said troopers stopped a vehicle being driven by Ricky Rivera Jr., 23, of the Bronx, for an alleged vehicle and traffic violation on the Thruway in the Town of Newburgh.

During the investigation, Rivera was found to be in possession of about a half pound of marijuana, police said.

He was taken into custody and charged with third-degree criminal possession of marijuana, a felony.

Rivera was released on an appearance ticket.

A return court date of Jan. 8 in the Town of Newburgh was scheduled.
