Upstate Man Faces Drug-Related Charges After I-87 Traffic Stop
After interviewing the man, the trooper said there was probable cause to search the driver and the vehicle.

TUXEDO, NY — A traffic stop on I-87 yielded drug-related charges for a Schenectady man. State police stopped a car driven by Kamal A. Patel, 34, of Schenectady, around 11:45 p.m. April 9 in the Town of Tuxedo for vehicle and traffic violations.
While interviewing him, the trooper said there was probable cause to search Patel and the vehicle.
Police found about 8 grams of concentrated cannabis and about 2 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Patel was arrested and charged with the following:
- Seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor
- Third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony (related to the mushrooms)
- Two counts of unlawful possession of marijuana, violations
- Vehicle and traffic violations
He was arraigned in the Town of Newburgh Court. State police had no information about bail or a return court date.
