Councilwoman Bonner Marches In Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade

On March 13, Councilwoman Jane Bonner joined in the annual Miller Place-Rocky Point St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which returned after a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19.

As part of the parade celebration, a $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Alexa Zichinelli from Miller Place High School. Her winning essay on Irish history and lore was inspired by her great-great grandmother, Mary Margaret McArdle from County Clare in Ireland. Alexa is planning to study pre-med in college on her way to becoming a surgeon and member of Doctors Without Borders. She is an active athlete, musician, tutor and volunteer.

Councilwoman Bonner said, “It was great fun to march again after two long years of no St. Patrick’s Day Parade. This is one of the biggest on Long Island and the community always comes out in full force to have a good time and see so many familiar, smiling faces. Thanks to the Friends of St. Patrick who worked so hard to make this parade happen.”

The parade is organized by the Friends of St. Patrick, founded in 1949 by businessmen John M. Sullivan and George Faulkner, who launched their first Miller Place-Rocky Point St. Patrick’s Day parade on March 11, 1950.
