Pedestrian Critically Hurt After Port Jeff Station Man Swerves to Avoid Head-On Collision
Accident occurred Monday night in Coram, police say.

A Coram woman is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle driven by a Port Jefferson Station man who swerved off the road to avoid a head-on collision Monday night in Coram, police said.
According to police, Justin Vaughan, 28, was driving a 1994 Jeep west on Middle Country Road when a vehicle with no headlights on crossed Middle Country Road, west of Homestead Drive, in front of the Jeep, causing Vaughan to swerve at 8:21 p.m.
The Jeep struck then struck a pedestrian, 56-year-old Susan Restrepo, police said.

Restrepo, of Coram, was taken via Coram Fire Department Rescue to Stony Brook University Hospital where she is listed in critical condition. Vaughn was not injured. The other vehicle was not involved in the crash and did not remain at the scene, police said.
The Jeep was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
