Frank Antun Jr., Davenport Press Founder, 74

Former restaurant owner dies from complications with cancer.

Frank Antun, Jr., the founder of the restaurant in Mineola, passed away Feb. 26 at his Florida home from complications relating to cancer. He was 74 years old.

Antun was born in St. Albans but grew up in Queens Village, attending the LaSalle Military Academy before enlisting in the Navy. He retired from service in 1959 and joined his father, Frank Sr. in the restaurant business according to Newsday.

The senior Antun passed away in 1994.

Antun opened restaurants in Hicksville (Antun's Old Country Manor) and Westbury (Piping Rock) as well as the Davenport in Mineola. Save for the Piping Rock which closed, all are under new management as Antun retired at age 50 before moving to Port St. Lucie and then Jensen Beach.

While in Port St. Lucie he opened another restaurant called Franko’s.

Antun owned and operated the Davenport from 1978-80, selling it to current owner Dennis Liberatos. The business was originally opened as a printing press by Charles Davenport.

Antun was cremated with ashes interred in All Saints Cemetery in Port St. Lucie.

He is survived by his first wife Laura, five step-children and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
