Police: Hempstead Woman Drove Drunk With 2-Year-Old Daughter in Car

Araceli Mondragon-Vargas, 27, is arrested Sunday morning, police say.

A Hempstead woman faces a felony DWI charge after police say she was intoxicated while driving with her 2-year-old daughter in her car early Sunday morning.

According to police, Araceli Mondragon-Vargas, 27, was driving west on Fulton Avenue in Hempstead in a Ford Windstar when she was observed failing to maintain a single lane by highway patrol officers. The officers conducted a traffic stop and after they determined Mondragon-Vargas was intoxicated, she was arrested at 4:15 a.m.

Mondragon-Vargas’s boyfriend and their 2-year-old daughter were in the car at the time. The child was removed from scene by the boyfriend, police said.

Mondragon-Vargas is charged with aggravated DWI–a felony under Leandra’s Law–endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of DWI, failing to stay in a single lane and unlicensed operator. She will be arraigned on Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.
