2 New Rochelle Men Arrested In Fatal Shooting Of 20YO Woman: FBI

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Mount Vernon Police and the FBI Westchester Safe Streets Task Force arrested two New Rochelle men on Tuesday in connection with the September 25, fatal shooting of 20-year-old Aaliyah Waiters.

The suspects have been identified as 21-year-old Laquan Jones and 20-year-old Tyquan Carcamo, both of New Rochelle. Carcamo was arrested by Mount Vernon detectives and members of the FBI Safe Streets Task Force at the home of a relative in Yonkers. Jones was arrested at his mother’s home in New Rochelle. The pair was arraigned in Mount Vernon City Court on charges of Murder in the Second Degree and remanded to the Westchester County Jail.

Waiters was shot and killed as she stood with a group in front of a home on South Third Avenue. When police arrived, they found her suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. She was taken to Jacobi Medical Center where she eventually died.

"It is always the goal of the Mount Vernon Police Department to ensure that all persons that commit acts of violence within Mount Vernon are held accountable for their actions," police officials said in a statement announcing the arrests.

Mount Vernon detectives recovered video footage that helped break the case, with the help of the New Rochelle Police Department and the FBI Safe Streets Task Force. Investigators from the three agencies reviewed hours of video to identify the suspects and establish a timeline of events leading up to the moment that the suspects fired a barrage of bullets in the direction of victim, according to officials.
