3 Firefighters Injured Battling Holiday Weekend Blaze In Mount Vernon
The fast-moving fire spread to a second building. 20 residents of the buildings escaped unharmed, but were displaced.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Three firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries and 20 residents were unable to return home after a stubborn fire spread to two residential buildings in Mount Vernon on Sunday, according to fire officials.
Shortly before 1 p.m., dispatchers in Mount Vernon started to receive 911 emergency calls about a structure fire on North 7th Ave. The Mount Vernon Fire Department was on scene within 6 minutes. "Heavy fire" was showing from the front of the multi-story house and had already spread to a neighboring residence.
The fire was placed under control approximately 3 hours later at 4:03 p.m., according to MVFD. The Pelham Fire Department and the Eastchester Fire Department provided mutual aid.

There were no injuries to any residents, who were safely evacutaed. Three firefighters were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Red Cross was on the scene to help the 20 displaced residents from both homes.
