4 New Housing Developments Will Transform Mount Vernon, Mayor Says

Mount Vernon's Urban Renewal Agency is involved in public-private partnerships.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Four new housing developments will transform the economy, create jobs, and increase the quality of life in the city, Mayor Richard Thomas announced. The series of market-rate development projects in mount Vernon will build 888 units. The projects represent over $300 million in investment.

Thomas was joined Friday at a press conference by Joe Simone of Simone Development; Carlton Brown of Direct Investment Corporation; Sam Mermelstein of Enclave Equities; and Mark Alexander of The Alexander.

“We are so excited to be here and to be a part of the resurgence of the city of Mount Vernon," Alexander said. "Fleetwood is a fantastic neighborhood and we are looking forward to breaking ground on a complex that will offer the best amenities in all of southern Westchester.”

David Gentner, CEO of the Wartburg, also joined to affirm his commitment to developing a luxury retiree complex at an estimated $65 million.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has dedicated $2.5 billion in funds for housing that has made market-rate projects attractive to investors and boosted the vision of transformative housing, Thomas said. “I am proud to share the vision of Governor Andrew Cuomo in promoting developments that change lives, and cities, for good. These developers have brought forth projects that will create jobs, seize new opportunities, and activate our economy.”
