Afternoon Shooting At Intersection Wounds 1, Gunman Remains At Large

The victim, who was rushed to Jacobi, was "conscious and alert," according to Mount Vernon Police Department officials.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Mount Vernon police are investigating a daylight shooting that left one man wounded.

Gunfire broke out just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of South 9th Ave. and Sanford Blvd. Officers arrived to find one victim with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was described as "conscious and alert" at the scene, according to officials. The wounded man was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. Authorities did not release an update on his condition.

"Currently there are no suspects in custody," Mount Vernon police said in a statement released Wednesday afternoon, "The General Investigations Unit of the Mount Vernon Police Department is conducting a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for this act of violence."

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the MVPD Detective Division at 914-665-2510. Police say all calls will be kept confidential. Anonymous tips can also be sent via MVPD's "Text-A-Tip" by texting "MVPD" and the tip to 847411. Information can also be sent anonymously using the "Mount Vernon PD" app, available in the Google Play and Apple stores.
