Fatal Overdose: Yonkers Police Warn of Fentanyl-Tainted Cocaine
Yonkers Police have issued a public safety alert after a rash of overdoses linked to fentanyl-laced cocaine from a single tainted batch.
YONKERS, NY — The Yonkers Police Department is warning the public about a batch of possibly fentanyl-laced cocaine that has already resulted in at least six serious overdoses as of Thursday. All six victims were taken to the hospital. One of the overdose casualties has since died and one other is described as being in "grave condition."
Detectives say all of the victims likely suffered from ingesting a potentially lethal dosage of fentanyl. Investigators believe that the drugs in each of the incidents came from a single original source.
The Yonkers Police Major Case Squad and Narcotics Unit are working with other local jurisdictions to investigate the overdose incidents authorities are aware of so far. Police hope to find the dealer responsible for putting the tainted drugs on the streets before any other users are harmed or killed.
