Hospital-Bed Arraignment In BRP Wrong-Way Crash
Three of the seven people injured are still hospitalized, the DA said.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — A New York City man accused of injuring six people Friday in a head-on crash while driving the wrong way on the Bronx River Parkway in the middle of the night has been charged with vehicular assault. Diego Caceres was arraigned late Tuesday at Westchester County Medical Center where he is recovering from injuries received in the crash, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. said Wednesday.
Bail was set at $100,000.
The indictment alleges that at 3:31 a.m. Friday, Caceres was driving his 2012 Nissan Murano the wrong way in the northbound lane of the Bronx River Parkway while intoxicated. At the DeWittAvenue Bridge in Yonkers, his Nissan collided head-on with an oncoming Dodge Durango carrying six passengers who were visiting from Florida. All six were injured.

Caceres was arrested at the scene by the Westchester County Department of Public Safety.
Two of the victims sustained serious physical injuries and remain hospitalized, as does Caceres, the DA said.

The 35-year-old faces a one-count charge of Aggravated Vehicular Assault. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 21. This case is being handled by the Vehicular Crimes Bureau.
