Mount Vernon Man Sentenced In Bat Attack

The 33-year-old has two prior felony convictions, the DA said.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Robert Johnson was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in state prison for an assault captured on surveillance video. A jury had found the Mount Vernon resident guilty at a trial in September with Westchester County Court Judge David Zuckerman presiding.

The jury found Johnson guilty of:

  • two counts of Attempted Assault in the First Degree, a class C violent felony
  • one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a class D felony

Johnson attacked two men with a bat in the vicinity of Eighth Avenue and Fifth Street in Mount Vernon at 5:30 p.m. Oct, 6, 2018. The entire attack was captured on surveillance video.

Johnson, 33, has two prior felony convictions, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. said.

The case was prosecuted by the Investigations Division.
