Reckless Manslaughter Conviction In Girlfriend's Asphyxia Death

After she died, he wrapped her in bags and a comforter and hid her body in a park.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Jason Myers, 33, faces a prison sentence after his conviction in the strangling death of his girlfriend. He hid the body of Ashley McDuffie in a park in the Bronx.

The Mount Vernon resident was found guilty of one count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a class “C” Felony and one count of Concealment of a Human Corpse, a class “E” Felony, Westchester County District Attorney Anthony A. Scarpino, Jr. announced Nov. 15.

McDuffie's family reported her missing Aug. 23, 2016 to the Mount Vernon Police Department.

Three days later, Myers confessed to police that he killed McDuffie and dumped her body in the area of 233 rd Street and Monticello Avenue in a heavily-wooded area in Seton Falls Park in the Bronx, the DA said.

Members of the New York City Police Department recovered the body which was wrapped in plastic bags
and a comforter taken from McDuffie’s home. The body had been dumped over a guardrail, dragged
down a hill and hidden behind a tree limb and a large rock.

An autopsy conducted by the New York City Medical Examiner concluded that the cause of death was
asphyxia due to compression of the neck.

Myers is set to be sentenced Dec. 14 and faces up to 15 years in state prison.

First Deputy District Attorney Patricia Murphy and Assistant District Attorney James Bavero of the
Superior Court Trial Division prosecuted the case.
