Teen Killed In Fatal Victory Parade Stabbing Identified By Officials
A 15-year-old has been charged in connection with killing a 16-year-old classmate and wounding another after celebrations on Friday.

MOUNT VERNON, NY —A vigil is planned for the 16-year-old Mount Vernon high school student who was killed on the street during what police are calling a fight involving "multiple female combatants."
"Mount Vernon, let's come together as a community to support the family and friends of Kayla Green who lost her life in an act of violence on Friday," Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard wrote in a social media post late Sunday night. "Let's help each other heal."
Green was fatally stabbed and another Mount Vernon student was injured at East Prospect Ave. and Gramatan Ave. around 3:55 p.m. on Friday, police said. Officials said another student was treated at the hospital for multiple stab wounds.

Mount Vernon police said when they arrived at the scene, officers found a group of teenage girls fighting and soon became aware two of the girls had been stabbed, one with non-life-threatening lacerations and the second with a critical stab wound. The gravely injured minor died from her injuries on the way to Jacobi Medical Center.

The tragic events on the Mount Vernon street unfolded within an hour of the community gathering for a citywide celebration to pay tribute to the high school athletes who capped an undefeated basketball season by winning the state championship.
Police arrested a 15-year-old Mount Vernon girl in connection with the killing late Friday.
"The Mount Vernon Police Association would like to express our deepest condolences to the family of Kayla Green," the Mount Vernon Police Association said in statement released on Sunday. "Our members especially those that were there and directly involved in this incident are deeply shaken by this senseless killing. To witness the death of a child who barely began their life's journey is a lot to bear even for the toughest and strongest amongst us."
A vigil in Mount Vernon is planned in memory of Green on Monday evening. The organizers are asking attendees at the event scheduled for 7 p.m. at Roosevelt Square to wear pink or white. Pink and white balloons with personal messages expressing how Kayla Green's short life touched a community will be released to the heavens as friends and loved ones share their grief and a city mourns a senseless loss.
Dream Chasers Keystone Members of the Boys & Girls Club of Mount Vernon will be holding a peaceful protest rally Monday in order to condemn Friday's violence. It will start at The Boys and Girls Club at 350 S. 6th Ave and a "Walk for Kayla" will follow, ending at East Prospect and Gramatan.
