MOUNT VERNON, NY — A Mount Vernon man who shot and killed a man he had argued with before agreeing to meet to fight has been sentenced on manslaughter charges.

Mount Vernon resident Jonathan Jeanty was sentenced to prison for the 2020 shooting death of a Yonkers man, Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah announced on Wednesday.

Jeanty was sentenced on Tuesday to 15 years in state prison, with five years of post-release supervision, after the 23-year-old entered a guilty plea to manslaughter in the first degree on Sept. 15.

In the early morning hours of April 12, 2020, following an earlier argument, the 22-year-old met up with Yonkers resident Tremell Robinson to settle their differences on First Avenue in Mount Vernon, but what started as a meeting to fight left the 24-year-old dead, after Jeanty fatally shot Robinson.

According to prosecutors, both men had weapons and Robinson was shot one time. He was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Mount Vernon police arrested Jeanty four days later on April 16.
