Westchester Man Nabbed In Stamford Fur Heist: Police
Masked men fled the fur store & jumped into a waiting getaway vehicle. Long-time store owner Denis Nanos watched the brazen robbery unfold.

MOUNT VERNON, NY — Police have linked a brazen fur robbery to a Mount Vernon man.
On December 27, shortly after 4:30 p.m., three masked men entered Engel’s Furs located on Bedford Street in Stamford, and began removing fur coats from the clothing racks.
The masked men fled the store and jumped into a waiting getaway vehicle. Long-time store owner Denis Nanos watched the brazen robbery unfold.

The total loss incurred by Engel’s Furs was $62,750, according to police. Investigators from the Bureau of Criminal Investigations Crimes Against Property Unit tracked the vehicle back to Westchester County.
With the assistance of detectives from the Mount Vernon Police Department, investigators were able to identify one of the suspects involved as Moses Nance of Mount Vernon.

The 36-year-old has a lengthy criminal history that involved drug offenses and violent crimes, police report. At the time he was identified as a suspect, Nance was already wanted in Westchester County, for a violent assault that took place in Mount Vernon.
Investigators from Stamford moved to arrest Nance and on March 5, he was extradited from Westchester Country and charged with larceny first degree and conspiracy at larceny first degree.
