Bicyclist in May 9 Hit-and-Run Dies of Injuries

The driver faces a felony-level charge of leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death.

Alfred Zaldivar of New City died yesterday from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run accident May 9, Clarkstown police said.

The 47-year-old was struck while cycling on Old Route 304 in New City, in the area of Cypress Street, by an eastbound Jeep which drove away.

Clarkstown police searched for the vehicle, which had left debris strewn around the crime scene, until the driver, Robert Faist, 32, of River Rise Road in New City, turned himself in 21 hours later.

Once facing a felony-level charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious injuries, Faist now faces a charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a death.

He is due back in court May 18.
