Today's riddle: What is clean when it is black and dirty when it is white? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Ex-Boyfriend Wanted After Deadly NYC Balcony Push: Police (patch.com) — New Yorkers are being urged to watch for a suspect accused of pushing a 23-year-old mother and her 8-month-old daughter from a 15th-floor Bronx balcony, killing the woman and critically injuring the child. NYPD detectives have released surveillance images of 31-year-old Angel Carrasco, the victim's ex-boyfriend, and are continuing an active investigation into the deadly incident.
2. Chrysler Building Will Get $235M Makeover With New Ownership Deal (patch.com) — New Yorkers will see a major transformation of the Chrysler Building as new leaseholder Tishman Speyer commits $235 million to restore the landmark's facade, crown, and infrastructure. Plans include a new indoor-outdoor lounge on the 61st floor, upgraded amenities in the underground arcade, and lease payments that will help Cooper Union restore full-tuition scholarships for students.
3. 2 Arrested After Stabbing Off-Duty NYPD Detective (patch.com) — New Yorkers are learning more about last week's stabbing of an off-duty NYPD detective in the Bronx, after two suspects were tracked down and arrested in Lynn, Massachusetts. Police say the men allegedly rode up on a moped, stabbed and robbed the detective near Rochambeau Avenue and East 208th Street, before being captured by a joint NYPD and U.S. Marshals fugitive task force.
4. Years before the Cornell case, this ex-lawmaker tried to close NY's rape law loophole (nbcnewyork.com) — New York lawmakers are again debating how to close a long-criticized gap in the state's rape laws, after an upstate Cornell case and an earlier Manhattan club incident exposed limits on prosecuting assaults involving voluntary intoxication. Former state senator Alessandra Biaggi's stalled bill has renewed backing from Governor Hochul and Attorney General Letitia James, but Assembly leaders still haven't brought it to a vote.
5. Supporting migrants: an evaluation of U20 (jhunewsletter.com) — New York City's role in hosting the recent Urban 20 summit put the city's migrant response in the global spotlight, with Mayor Zohran Mamdani pushing for more money and policy power for cities. The piece evaluates how NYC's housing, jobs, and community partnerships for migrants could protect newcomers while also helping longtime New Yorkers struggling with rent and services.
