NYC-Owned Grocery Plan Challenged In Court (patch.com) — New Yorkers are watching a major legal fight unfold over Mayor Zohran Mamdani's plan to open five city-owned discount supermarkets, including sites in Hunts Point and East Harlem. A coalition of immigrant and minority grocers has sued in state court, arguing the subsidized stores could undercut nearby small businesses and potentially violate state civil rights protections, while City Hall insists the program is legal and vital for lowering grocery costs.
   

2. NYC Parks' Crew For Faster Repairs: What To Know (patch.com) — New Yorkers frustrated with broken fountains and worn-out courts may soon see faster fixes as the city launches a 24-person Parks Department "Renew Crew" dedicated to small repairs. Starting at Dry Harbor Playground in Glendale, Queens, the team aims to complete jobs within three weeks and is asking residents to flag problem spots through 311 so parks across the five boroughs can be spruced up more quickly.
   

3. New York's 20 Best High Schools For 2026-27 Revealed (wrrv.com) — New York City families can see how top local high schools stack up in U.S. News' new 2026–27 rankings, which highlight several NYC public schools among the state's best. The list details where Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, Brooklyn Tech, Staten Island Tech, and other campuses land, and explains the test scores, graduation rates, and college readiness data behind the scores.
   

4. This Tiny Caribbean Island Is Getting Its First-Ever Flights From the New York Area (caribjournal.com) — New Yorkers will soon be able to fly nonstop from Newark to tiny South Caicos, cutting out connections and turning this quiet Turks and Caicos island into a much easier winter escape. Starting Dec. 20, BermudAir's twice-weekly flights link the New York area directly to new luxury resorts and bonefishing flats on an island that previously felt far more remote.
