11 Guns Found at Scene of Feb. 8 Standoff in New City

Police say Vincent Cordaro used a 308 rifle with a scope to shoot at them.

The Clarkstown Police Department has provided additional information about the police-involved shooting incident Feb. 9 in New City.

The standoff began at 7 p.m. when family members called police to report Vincent Cordaro had threatened to shoot them and warned he would kill any police who intervened. The Clarkstown Critical Incident Response Team was deployed to at 67 N. Little Tor Road at 8:10 p.m. At 11:35 p.m. , as police deployed gas, Cordaro shot at them and a member of the CIRT returned fire, shooting one round. Communication and movement stopped in the house. At 1 a.m. the team entered and found the body.

In all, 11 firearms were recovered from the home: 7 rifles and 4 shotguns.

Two firearms—a scoped 308 rifle and a shotgun—were recovered from the bedroom Cordaro, 57, had been shooting from. More than 200 rifle and shotgun rounds were also found.

A total of seven rifle casings have been recovered from within the home, which reveals that a minimum of seven rounds were fired by the suspect during the standoff, police said. They were all 308 caliber rounds shot from the 308 rifle found in the bedroom.

While the name of the officer involved in the shooting will not be released at this time due to the investigation, officials provided this description: He is a 47-year-old officer who has been with the Clarkstown Police Department for 16 years and has been a member of the tactical team for 10 years. He has an exemplary record with the department.

Police said they will continue to provide updated information as it becomes available for release.
