HUDSON VALLEY, NY — The presidential, state and local primaries are Tuesday. There is still time to take advantage of early voting and to mail in your absentee ballot.

There are seven primary contests. In Congressional District 17, the seat long held by retiring Rep. Nita Lowey, there are both Democratic and Republican primaries. In Congressional District 16 there is a Democratic primary as Rep. Eliot Engel faces his first challenge in years. In Congressional District 19, there is a Republican primary.

State contests include both GOP and Democratic primaries in NY Senate District 38, which covers all of Rockland County plus Ossining, across the Hudson River in Westchester, and whose incumbent is running for Congress.

There's a Democratic primary in NY Senate District 34, which includes Pelham, part of Mount Vernon and Yonkers, and much of the north Bronx. In that contest, Alessandra Biaggi of Pelham is challenged by James Gisondi of the Bronx to see if she can hold the place she wrested two years ago from Jeffrey Klein.

There are state Assembly primaries for Democrats in districts 91, 92 and 93. In the first two, incumbents face challengers. In the 93rd, the incumbent is running for Congress and five people are vying to replace him on the Democratic line in November.

Voting Information

The deadline for the postmarked return of an absentee ballot has been extended to June 23 for the primary election.

Should you wish to vote in person, you may still take advantage of early voting, which continues through Sunday, June 21.

Of course, registered voters may vote in person Tuesday. Because it's a primary, you may not be voting at your normal election polling site.
