County App Puts Emergency Preparedness in Your Hands

There’s a famous saying: “failing to plan is planning to fail.” When it comes to emergencies, those words could not be more accurate.

Severe weather, road closures, power outages, and other emergencies can develop quickly. When they do, the last thing anyone should have to worry about is where to find accurate information or what steps to take to keep their family safe.

With my background in law enforcement, I understand how critical communication is when situations are changing quickly. Residents need to know what is happening, where they can turn for help, and what they should do next. That is why making emergency information easier to access has always been an important part of our commitment to public safety.

I’m pleased to announce that Rockland County has launched a new Emergency Management App designed to put that information right into residents’ hands.

Instead of having to look in different places for updates and resources, residents now have a one-stop resource for weather updates, power outage information, traffic and roadway conditions, and more.

The app also provides preparedness videos, tips and checklists, allows them to register for the Access and Functional Needs Registry, and provides a way to report damage following a disaster.

While we hope our residents never have to use the app during a serious emergency, I encourage everyone to download it now. The best time to prepare is before something happens, not when you are already in the middle of it.

I want to thank Rockland County Office of Fire & Emergency Services Director Chris Kear and his team for developing this resource and creating another way to make critical information more accessible to our residents. This work helps ensure Rockland County is prepared and ready to respond.

The Rockland County Emergency Management App is free and available by searching “Rockland County Emergency Management” in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
