Do you have Unclaimed Funds?

By County Executive Ed Day

As shocking as it may seem, the Office of the New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli reports there is $18.4 billion in lost money across the state with his office returning $1.5 million to those filing claims daily.

This is something I’ve personally shared on social media many times because occasionally, after that reminder, at least one person out there ends up finding a few extra bucks they would never have known about.

Where does it come from? Abandoned bank accounts, insurance companies, courts, and more.

It’s clear by how much unclaimed funding still exists, we can’t remind our residents enough to check and make sure they’re not losing out on money that is rightfully theirs. So naturally when the Comptroller’s office reached out to my office asking if we’d be interested in coordinating in-person unclaimed fund events in Rockland we jumped at the opportunity.

Beginning Monday July 24th there will be five unclaimed fund events – one in every town in Rockland - for residents to check if they have unclaimed funds and submit a claim if they do or check on existing claims.
