NEW CITY, NY — The mother of 1-year-old twins who died when her husband went to work, leaving them in the car, is making an exclusive appearance on the Dr. Phil Show on Thursday. It's the first time Marissa Rodriguez has talked publicly about the afternoon her husband found them in the back seat on his way home from work July 26.

"I don't want to be here," Rodriguez is shown saying in a preview. "I don't want this to be my story."

Juan Rodriguez, 39, of New City told police he had forgotten Luna and Phoenix were there after he dropped an older child off at a Westchester home.

In July, Marissa Rodriguez released a statement saying she loves her husband and knows "he will never forgive himself for this mistake."

Juan Rodriguez, an Iraq war veteran, works at the VA Medical Center in the Bronx. His wife told Dr. Phil he called her around 4 p.m. that day saying it was her turn to pick the babies up from child care. It was an hour later that he called back.

She told Dr. Phil about her anger. "I couldn't understand how it happened."

She also said police would not let her see the children's bodies.

Police said when Juan Rodriguez called 911 he was screaming. He still faces charges of manslaughter and criminally negligent homicide. Bronx prosecutors are still deciding whether to seek an indictment. He is due back in court Dec. 5.

Friends began a GoFundMe page to help the family with legal and other expenses.
