NEW CITY, NY — Hungry Hollow Road is closed at the bridge over the New York State Thruway. New York State Thruway officials indicated that the bridge, which goes over the thruway, suffered structural damage after it was hit by a southbound truck Wednesday afternoon. Rockland County Executive Ed Day directed the County Highway Department to meet with state officials Thursday to discuss plans to repair damage to the overpass in Chestnut Ridge.
County Highway Superintendent Charles "Skip" Vezzetti said Hungry Hollow Road, which is maintained by the county, is closed between Old Nyack Turnpike and Jon Leif Lane.
Detour signs are posted to direct drivers to Margetts Road and Chestnut Ridge Road as alternatives.

"We need to make sure that there is a plan in place to assure the safety of both drivers and pedestrians who use that roadway," Day said.
The bridge will be closed indefinitely as the state inspects it to assess the extent of the damage. State officials could not rule out full replacement of the bridge.
