Deadly Ramapo Road Rage Leads to Manslaughter Charge
The driver killed a baby in a stroller.
ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — A Spring Valley man who smashed into a family of pedestrians on Route 59 has been indicted, Rockland County District Attorney Thomas P. Zugibe announced Thursday. Albert Gomez, 62, was arrested after the incident the afternoon of June 26.
“This defendant was driving recklessly and aggressively when he sped onto the shoulder of Route
59 and crashed into an unsuspecting family, tragically killing an infant,” Zugibe said in the announcement. “Rockland County will not tolerate this blatant disregard for life over a traffic dispute.”

- One count of Manslaughter in the Second Degree, a class “C” Felony
- One count of Criminally Negligent Homicide, a class “E” Felony
- Two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, class “D” Felonies
- One count of Assault in the Third Degree, a class “A” Misdemeanor
Gomez ran down a mother and her three children during a road rage incident directed at a taxi on Route 59 in Spring Valley, Zugibe alleged.
According to the charges, his 1999 Toyota Corolla struck the 38‐year‐old woman, her two daughters, ages 13 and 9, and three‐month‐old son as they walked on the shoulder of Route 59 near Robert Pitt Drive.

Gomez allegedly had sped onto the shoulder when he struck the victims.
The infant, Mayer Braun, succumbed to his injuries on July 5. He was being transported in a stroller at the time of the incident. His mother and older sisters also suffered serious, but non‐ life‐threatening injuries and are recovering.
Arraignment on the indictment is scheduled for Tuesday before the Honorable David Zuckerman.
