Victims ID'd in Overnight Fatal Fire

The Clarkstown Police Department has identified the victim of the fatal house fire that occurred last night on Hansen Ave in New City.

Luis Fernandez, 67, of 51 Hansen Ave. died as a result of his injuries sustained in a fire that fully engulfed his home at approximately 11:30 PM Oct. 27, police said.

His wife, Ruth Fernandez, 65, is being treated at Columbia Presbyterian Burn Center. There is no update on her medical condition.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious but this is an ongoing investigation and the cause of the fire has not been determined, police said.

The fire may have been caused by an explosion in the garage. More than 50 volunteer firefighters fought the blaze.
