Yesterday's Fatal Fall at the Mall was Accidental, Clarkstown Police Say
It happened on the escalator at the Palisades Center.

The Clarkstown Detective Bureau has determined that the incident that occurred Oct. 30 at the Palisades Mall was a tragic accident.
A 54-year-old man died when he fell from the third floor to the first floor.
The detective assigned to the case was able to obtain video of the incident.

It appeared that the victim was attempting to get on the 3rd floor escalator going to the 4th floor at 10:20 a.m. He had his back to the railing of the escalator when he appears to have lost his balance. The upward motion of the escalator hand rail assisted in pushing his body over the railing.
Police said the staff member was next to the victim and attempted to grab hold of the him but was unable to.

At this time, all of the next of kin have not been notified, so the name of the victim will not be released at this time, police said.
The man was in the mall with two other residents and a staffer from a group home run by The New York Foundling.
