Barnard Elementary School in New Rochelle Temporarily on Lockdown Due to Pellet Gun Probe

School district officials said there was no indication the suspect was ever on school grounds.

New Rochelle’s Barnard Elementary School was on lockdown for about half an hour Friday afternoon after police were called to the scene to investigate “popping” sounds near the facility, The Journal News reports.

Police took an unnamed man into custody for questioning after he was discovered in the area while carrying a pellet gun. The school was locked down from about 1:40 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.

No students were harmed, and school district officials said there was no indication the man was ever on school grounds.
