This recipe is so easy, and so satisfying. Make these when your grill is still hot from cooking dinner. By the time you’re ready for dessert, these pretty grill-striped peached will cool enough to eat.
Serves 6
- 6 firm, ripe, fragrant peaches, halved and pitted
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (1/2 a stick), melted
- a couple of generous pinches of sugar
To grill the peaches: Heat your grill with a medium to low fire (or even better, use the hot coals left over from dinner). Thoroughly scrape the grill bars with a wire brush. Put the peach halves in a bowl, and gently toss them with the melted butter and sugar, coating them well. You won’t need much sugar, just a little to kick-start the caramelization process, and too much will burn.

Grill the peaches with the grill cover closed, until they’re lightly charred on both sides. This will take 4 or 5 minutes per side. Remove from heat and serve with Lemon Honey Crème Fraiche, below
Lemon Honey Crème Fraîche- 1 cup crème fraîche, store bought or home-made (see note)
- Zest from 1 lemon
- Juice from ½ a lemon
- 2 tablespoons honey
- A healthy pinch of salt
Stir all the ingredients together, being careful not to whisk or overbeat. Serve with grilled peaches

Note: Don’t worry if you can’t find crème fraîche in the market—it’s easy to make your own. Put 1 cup of heavy cream (preferably pasteurized, rather than ultra-pasteurized) into a clean glass container. Stir in 2 tablespoons buttermilk and cover with plastic wrap. Allow the mixture to stand at room temperature (about 70°) for 8-24 hours, or until it is very thick. Stir and refrigerate for up to 10 days.
