Daily Sports Digest: New Rochelle Soccer Beats Harrison

After the long holiday weekend, the local teams suited up for competition Tuesday. New Rochelle soccer didn’t miss a beat as the Huguenots narrowly defeated Harrison 3-2. Ursuline didn’t fair so well on the field as the field hockey and soccer teams both lost but the Koalas did wrap up a volleyball victory against Pelham.

Yesterday’s Results:

Sport: Field Hockey

Game: Ursuline @ Harrison

Score:  Ursuline Lost 3-0.

Highlights: The game was scoreless at half time but Harrison came out in the second half and found the back of the net three times against the Koalas. Eleni Pantelopoulos, Rachel Kalichman and Michelle Loguidice picked up the goals for the Huskies and Michelle De Leo had the loan assist for Harrison. Ali Menneti pitched a shut out from goal with one save against Ursuline.

Sport: Girl’s Soccer

Game: Harrison @ New Rochelle

Score: New Rochelle Won 3-2.

Highlights: Harrison has hit a bit of a slump ever since beating Rye in late September. The Huguenots defeated the Huskies 3-2 on the strength of Katie Grogan in goal and three different goal scorers. Riley Gallin and Alexandra Williams scored for New Rochelle while Shannon Carly picked up a goal and an assist. For Harrison, Jackie Fonseca fought valiantly in goal saving 11 shots and Cassidy Cohen did her best to spark the Huskies scoring two goals, but in the end New Rochelle was too much for Harrison. 

Sport: Girl’s Soccer

Game: Scarsdale @ Ursuline

Score:  Ursuline Lost 3-2

Highlights: The Koala soccer team hosted Scarsdale and fell 3-2 to the Raiders.

Sport: Volleyball

Game: Pelham @ Ursuline

Score: Ursuline Won 3-2

Highlights: It wasn’t easy, but the Koalas were able to escape the hungry Pelicans 3-2. Pelham was up 2 sets to 1, but the Pelicans were not able to close it out on the road. Pelham’s Lauren Keller had 43 assists while Tori Bowser had 15 kills in the loss. In the victory, Ursuline was led by Julie Parascandola, Kristen Knight and Lauren Biolsi—all three had double digit kills.

Today’s Schedule:

In girl’s swimming, Ursuline and Pelham High School will face off at the College of New Rochelle.

In girl’s tennis, Ursuline will head to Bronxville for a 4:15 p.m. match.

In volleyball, Ursuline will host Mount Vernon in the school’s gymnasium at 4:15 p.m.

In boy’s soccer, New Rochelle will face off at White Plains against the Tigers. When the two teams met earlier in the year, White Plains won 4-2.

In girl’s swimming, the Huguenots will travel to Ardsley High School to hit the water in a 4:30 p.m. meet.

In volleyball, New Rochelle will head to Mamaroneck High School for a 4:15 p.m. match up with the Tigers.
