NEW YORK - One of the best parts about living in New York is that there are always fun things to do — and WalletHub agrees.

The website recently created a list of the most fun states in the U.S. and New York was fun, but not the most fun. The Empire State came in at the respectable number 4 spot. It seems that even Niagara Falls, The Great White Way and the Adirondacks can't trump Disney parks and the Vegas strip when it comes to a good time.

New York was beat out by California, Florida and Nevada in the top three spots.

While Americans were limited in their recreation during the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccinations have helped the leisure and hospitality sectors reopen, so there are a lot more options for fun now.

WalletHub created the list by comparing the states using 26 key indicators of a "jolly good time that won't break the bank," including movie costs, accessibility of national parks and the number of casinos per capita.

Here's how New York breaks down compared to the other states, per capita:

  • 1st: Performing Arts Theaters
  • 2nd: Fitness Centers
  • 3rd: Restaurants
  • 3rd: Movie Theaters
  • 5th: Golf Courses and Country Clubs
