Hercules, the Gentle Giant

The moment Hercules came into the Mount Vernon Animal Shelter, we all knew he was something special and not just because of his enormous size, but rather his incredibly gentle and kind disposition. Although his ears were flea-bitten and his legs had a fair share of callouses that might indicate he had not had the most comfortable living conditions prior to his arrival, Hercules has nothing but affection for everyone he has met and is the definition of "easy going."
He did fantastic on his professional evaluation and was a perfect gentleman at the Vet's office where we had him vaccinated and neutered….he is a favorite wherever he goes! Currently, he spends most of his days in the front dog pens at the shelter and draws attention to himself by being such a quiet boy by which he gets his fair share of hot-dogs and cheese from volunteers. He does not need a lot of exercise and will make a wonderful companion for someone experienced in large breed dogs and willing to make a commitment to caring for the big guy for rest of his life.
We estimate him to be about 4 years old, he is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered, gets along with dogs, and does not mind cats either. If you are interested in adopting Hercules, you can go to our website, http://www.mtvernonanimals.org/ and fill out an application or come to the shelter 7 days/week from 10am-1pm.
