Man Stabbed Fighting Off Muggers Near Train Station: Police

Breaking: Police say the two unidentified suspects who twice accosted the victim in the early morning hours remain at large.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A New Rochelle man managed to fight off the men who attempted to rob him, but was later stabbed by the same suspects, according to police.

Thursday, shortly after midnight, New Rochelle police were called to Station Plaza South, between Memorial Highway and Division Street, following a reported stabbing and attempted robbery. The victim, a 41-year-old man from New Rochelle, told officers he was walking on Station Plaza South when he was approached by two suspects described as Black males who tried to remove his wallet from his back pocket.

The victim fought the men off and was able to run away, but he returned a short time later to retrieve property he dropped during the struggle and he was again accosted by the same men. He again attempted to flee, but this time, one of the suspects stabbed him in his lower back before he was able to get away.

The injury was superficial and the victim refused medical attention.

"Suspect one" is described as a Black male of unknown age wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and a black face mask. "Suspect two" is described as a Black male of unknown age wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and a black face mask.
