This will be my last blog post of "My Middle School Life", where I have been writing about my life in 6th, 7th and 8th grade at Albert Young Middle School in New Rochelle, NY. Here are a few things that have happened in the last month of school.
Being it was the end of the year all the classes were accelerated. In science we dissected a real frog, which was pretty cool. However, Mikey just started hacking away at it, it became gruesome. In social studies we covered World War II in one day, which is not enough time, obviously times a million. In English our final essay question was about "Conformity versus Individuality -- Which is better for Society?" After learning about the holocaust and reading books all year about bullying and lemmings, I thought it was obvious. I put "Individuality" and why. In the hallway later I found out that a lot of people picked "Conformity". I wonder if they failed the question.
Our long awaited class trip to Holiday Mountains arrived and it rained cats and dogs. I was in bus "G" and managed to have a lot of fun with my friends anyway. We swam in complete downpours and it was fun. When it stopped raining we went to the arcade and ate. It would have been better if they weather was good, but we made the most of it.

According to my mom, I had to get really dressed up for the award ceremony. My dad wasn't home, so I looked up how to tie a tie on YouTube. It wasn't easy or neat. My friend George wore his favorite t-shirt and sneakers. How come his mom didn't force him to dress up, too?
This summer we have been assigned to read a book about plastic surgery called Ugly. I think it is a weird choice, but there was one Botox question on the Living Environment regents, so maybe that is the reason.

The Albert Young graduation was a big ceremony with balloons, speeches, singing and celebrations. My cap and gown were big and everyone looked ridiculous. I still didn't know how to tie my tie and didn't have time for YouTube.
Now I am no longer a middle school student, I am off to high school. I hope you all enjoyed reading about my experiences as a middle school student here in New Rochelle. Overall, I thought middle school was much better than I had expected. The classes were more interesting that I expected and got even more interesting as the years went on. I really appreciate my friends, they are all different -- some smart, some athletic, some funny, some interesting. The idea of bullying, which was talked about all the time, was overstated. The highlights of my years were the Washington DC trip and the 8th grade dance.
I have to give a final shout out to my Great Aunt from Rowayton. She and my uncle took me and my sister to see a community theatre performance of South Pacific. I don't think she noticed that I dozed off once or twice, because I think my uncle did, too. In the car ride home they sang all the lyrics and my sister and I commented on how the couples in the play were such a big age difference. It was too lovey dovey for us kids.
With high school a few short weeks away, I will try to keep in mind the advice from my dentist. He said "Make friends with kids that are smarter than you, because there are plenty that are less smart than you are." His four sons are very successful and so is he.
Thanks for reading and look forward to reading if my sister Alison blogs middle school next year! :)
