New Rochelle Remains One of Safest US Cities: Report

The police department's 2015 annual report was just released.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The New Rochelle Police Department released its 2015 annual report which says New Rochelle remains one of the safest cities in the nation in 2014.

According to the report, New Rochelle was the 13th safest city nationwide in 2014 out of cities with a population between 80,000 and 99,999.

Also, the city retained the lowest crime rate among similar Westchester County and state municipalities.

Crime statistics for 2015 showed an overall decrease in burglaries and aggravated assault.

Police Commissioner Patrick Carroll said the violent crime category—including murders, assaults, rape and robbery—is the lowest since 1999.

“We are very gratified with the outstanding low crime rates for New Rochelle,” he said.

Improvements in department performance, according to the report, included increases in DWI enforcement and arrests for robbery.
