New Rochelle Restaurant Opens White Plains Location

One of White Plains' newest, family-owned eateries has a restaurant pedigree that dates back generations—and to New Rochelle.

Don Coqui—at 107 Mamaroneck Ave.—is the second of its kind; the original Don Coqui opened in 2009 in New Rochelle. Now, the Puerto Rican-and-American eateries have ballasts in two of Westchester's sprawling cities.

The White Plains business opened four weeks ago, after the owners—Jaleene Rodriguez and her sister—snatched up the real estate.

"It was a fantastic location—there's nothing better than Mamaroneck Avenue," Rodriguez told Patch.

"It's been super busy," she added. "We've had lines around the corner."

The two sisters own and operate both locations, with their father, Jimmy Rodriguez Jr. acting as a partner, Jaleene Rodriguez explained.

Jimmy Rodriguez Jr. operates a string of restaurants in New York City; his father, Jimmy Rodriguez Sr., started as a humble seafood merchant in the Bronx.

The White Plains restaurant begins serving lunch at 11:30 a.m. and dinner at 5 p.m. Entrees include the Don Coqui paella, fried shrimp and seafood stew.
