CORRECTION: Roof of Sports Underdome in Mount Vernon Collapses

The roof was reportedly unable to handle the weight of the snow.

MOUNT VERNON, NY -

UPDATE: CORRECTION: The owner of Ice Hutch told Patch the roof of the sports underdome, an indoor soccer facility collapsed.

An earlier report citing News 12 by Patch stating the roof of the ice hutch collapsed was erroneous. Patch regrets the error.

The roof of the Ice Hutch in Mount Vernon collapsed Saturday, News 12 reports citing police. The inflatable roof of the ice rink was unable to handle the weight of the snow.

No injuries were reported.

Mount Vernon mayor Richard Thomas posted images of the collapse on his Facebook page.

“This is why we need all cars off the roads immediately. Sports Dome collapsed and our fire department is on the scene. No injuries to report. Crews working over night to secure the Ice Hutch,” the mayor wrote.

According to the Ice Hutch website, the rink was founded in 1997 and serves the skating community all year round.
