Six Blue Angels Earn HVWAC All-Academic Recognition

The Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) announced its 2012-13 Winter/Spring All-Academic Team recently with six student-athletes from The College of New Rochelle earning recognition for outstanding performance in academics.

Senior Christine Biskup (Highland Falls, NY/James I. O’Neill HS) highlights the Blue Angel recipients.  The three-sport student-athlete (volleyball, basketball and softball) has earned this accolade every semester since the awards inception in 2010-11 in each of three sports she competed in.  This marks her sixth HVWAC All-Academic award.  She earned All-Conference recognition in softball in 2013.

Biskup’s basketball teammate Kathia Williams (Jamaica, NY/Baccalaureate School of Global Education) joined Biskup as one of just five three-time All-Academic honorees in this year’s group of recipients.  Sophomore Kat Sayegh (New Rochelle, NY/Maria Regina HS) earned the honor for the first time.

Junior Milagros Lugo (Bronx, NY/Walton HS) and sophomore Kathie-Lee Rickman (New York, NY/Manhattan Center for Sciences and Math) are first-time honorees.  Lugo earned All-Conference status following the conclusion of her season.

In total, 40 student-athletes were named HVWAC All-Academic status from among the seven member institutions participating in the winter and spring seasons.

The All-Academic Team recognizes excellence in the classroom. The All-Academic Team consists of student-athletes who have reached sophomore academic standing and have earned a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or better at the conclusion of the spring semester, and participate in one of the conference’s winter and spring sports – basketball, swimming and softball.
