1 Airlifted With Serious Injuries After North Fork Crash

Five people were injured and one was airlifted after a crash in Mattituck that left the road closed in both directions, officials say.

MATTITUCK, NY — Five people were hurt — of those, one was airlifted — after a crash in Mattituck Sunday afternoon.

According to officials at the scene, the two-car crash took place just after 4 p.m. at the intersection of Westphalia Road and County Road 48.

Of the five injured, one person needed CPR and was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center and another was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries; the other three were transported to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries, officials said.

The Mattituck Fire Department, Cutchogue Fire Department and Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps, as well as Southold police, responded to the scene, officials said.

County Road 48 was closed in both directions from Cox Neck Road to Mill Road in Mattituck after the crash, officials said.
