Bicyclist 'Extremely Critical' After Accident On Shelter Island
He was riding an electric bike and suffered severe head trauma, police say.
SHELTER ISLAND, NY – A bicyclist was seriously injured on Shelter Island Sunday, police said.
According to Shelter Island Police, the accident took place at 10:31 p.m. on South Menantic Road; the 38-year-old man, who had been riding an electric bike, was found unconscious in the roadway, authorities said. He remains in "extremely critical" condition as the result of severe head trauma from the fall, police said.
Shelter Island Town EMS took the bicyclist to the Westmoreland Airport where a Suffolk County helicopter airlifted him to Stony Brook University Hospital, police said. After an investigation the incident was deemed accidental and non-criminal, police said.
