Driver In Mattituck Crash That Left Baby Injured Fell Asleep At Wheel: Police
The crash took place Saturday on Sound Avenue in Mattituck, police say.

MATTITUCK, NY — The driver in a Mattituck crash Saturday that led to an 11-month-old being airlifted to the hospital was asleep at the wheel, police said.
According to Southold Town Police , the crash involved a car hitting a pole on Sound Avenue west of Aldrich Lane Saturday at 9:45 a.m.
The driver, Mario Barrera Vega, 23, of Corona, was heading west on Sound Avenue when he fell asleep and struck a utility pole on the south side of the roadway, causing a shutdown of the road, police said.

The 11-month old girl, of Corona, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, Southold Town Police Chief Martin Flatley said; the extent of the child's injuries was not immediately known.
Carlos Sancancela, 24, of Corona, was airlifted in the company of Blanca Vega, 28, of Corona to Stony Brook University Hospital, with unspecified, apparent non life-threatening injuries, police said.

Lorrtes Chimborazo, 20, of Corona, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center by Mattituck Fire Department Rescue with a head injury, police said.
Suffolk County Aviation landed at the Mattituck High School field; Mattituck Fire Department Rescue and Southold Police responded to the scene.
PSEG responded, secured the broken utility pole and the road was opened a short time later, police said.
