Local Resident Opens New Auto Repair Shop in Peconic

The shop opened up on Monday.

Local resident Todd Davey recently opened his own auto repair shop, ‘North Fork Garage’ in the former East End Auto Repair building, located on 37570 Route 25 in Peconic.

The shop opened on Monday after Davey, who grew up in Mattituck, spent years dreaming of becoming a mechanic and owning his own auto repair shop in the North Fork.

After learning that former owner Mike Borkowski was retiring and leaving his Peconic auto repair shop vacant, Davey knew it was going to be his shop. He put down a deposit the next day.

Davey has extensive education and experience in auto repair.

He graduated from Toyota’s “T-TEN” technical training program and spent the past 11 years working as a technician at both a European dealership and independent shop.

He also spends most weekends helping out friends and family members with oil changes and minor repairs.

Mike Velys, Sr. Vice President of REVCO Electric, has had Davey service his fleet of vans and trucks for the past several years and will be following him to his new shop.

“Once you have Todd fix one of your vehicles, you never want to use anybody but him,” he said. “He’s one of the most honest, hard-working, reliable and skillful guys I’ve met. He can diagnose and fix a problem that most other mechanics would miss.”

Davey currently lives in Riverhead with his wife, Rachael, and two sons, Wade and Cole.

Depending on the success of North Fork Garage, he plans to move further east.

“I want my boys to be able to spend time at the garage with me and if they’re interested, eventually take over,” he said. “Wade is already taking apart his toy trucks and trying on my boots. I hope this will be the start of our family business.”

Davey also hopes to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, Mike, and become a trusted fixture in the community.

“I hope to make Mike proud,” he said.
